SAT and ACT Test Prep

Step 1: The Diagnostic Test

The student is given a full-length diagnostic SAT and ACT to take in order to assess which test the student scores better on at baseline, which will determine which test they should focus their test prep efforts on.

Step 2: The Targeted Test Prep Plan

Using the results from the diagnostic test, a targeted test prep plan will be created which involves building on the student's strengths and tackling the student's areas of weakness.

Step 3: Skill Review and Test Prep Strategies

The tutor will work with the student on reviewing fundamental math concepts, grammar rules, reading comprehension skills, and specific test strategies and time management skills. Additionally, the tutor will personalize the test prep strategies to find ones that work best for the student instead of using a one-size-fits-all approach

Step 4: Independent Work

The tutor will assign independent work to the student to complete outside of the session to facilitate their progress and use primarily official test questions to gauge the effectiveness of the test prep strategies they have reviewed to date and make adjustments as needed.

Step 5: Score Improvements

The tutor will hold the student accountable for finishing assignments and practice tests, work to keep the student motivated, and hopefully help the student not only improve their test score, but their confidence. Students have had incredible score improvements with Kaplan-Cohen Tutoring.

Testimonial, December 2023

“Our daughter’s astounding results should relegate any spectrum of doubt to the recycling bin for clients wondering if the investment in Kaplan-Cohen Tutoring is worthwhile. The ‘before and after photos’ paint such a striking contrast, so detailing those scores is a necessity. English went from 23 to 33, reading improved by 9 points from 26 to 35, math improved by 4 points to 28, and astoundingly science went from a 24 to a PERFECT score of 36. The cumulative improvement catapulted her score from 24 to 33, which equates to roughly 1470 on the SAT (up from 1180). Most surprising to us was the efficiency with which the tutors manipulated her test-taking acumen. On the diagnostic test, our daughter failed to answer more than 40 of the test’s questions. On the actual test, she finished every question with enough time to revisit a few answers on which she was wavering. For this type of comparatively ‘blind purchase’, it’s a miscalculation to rely on generic YouTube videos, study guidebooks, and old wives’ tales advice…unless you are just looking to improve a child’s score by 3-5% vs. 15-25%. Tangible tips, hacks, improvements, and credit certainly reside with our selected tutors. Punctuation or grammar rules can be disseminated and geometrical equations can be memorized, but there is a connection with students that must be established to tutor with efficacy. Suffice it to say that if you choose Michelle’s company you’ll be in expert hands to guide your children to their best possible scores!”
